Uptown Theatre Supports Big Brothers Big Sisters through Special Viewing of Alice in Wonderland

Utica, NY (February 24, 2010) – The New Uptown Theatre in Utica and Big Brothers Big Sisters have partnered for a fundraising event.  The theater is airing a special showing of Alice in Wonderland on Thursday, March 11 at 7 p.m. and all proceeds will benefit the local Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

The New Uptown Theatre will screen Tim Burton’s most recent film, a remake of the Disney cartoon-classic.  Tickets are $5.  Bigs and Littles are encouraged to attend and community members are most welcome.  The movie event comes as Bowl for Kids’ Sake approaches, the signature event for Big Brothers Big Sisters to help raise funds and recruit new volunteers.  Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteers are selling raffle tickets in the lobby prior to the show.

“The New Uptown Theatre is very interested in supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters and Upstate Cerebral Palsy,” said Tracey Mills, owner of the New Uptown Theatre.   “This movie night is only one small way that we can partner with community programs to help the youth in this area.  The Uptown is pleased to reach out and support these local non-profits.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters is an affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, a national non-profit organization.  Big Brothers Big Sisters matches adult volunteers with children primarily from single-parent homes.  An adult mentor can have a tremendous impact on the life of a youngster.  Bowl for Kids’ Sake is a local event and the only fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters in the Mohawk Valley.  Big Brothers Big Sisters serves children in Oneida, Herkimer and Madison counties and is sponsored locally by Upstate Cerebral Palsy.

The New Uptown Theatre is located at 2014 Genesee Street, Utica, NY 13501.  Doors open for the special viewing of the PR-rated movie at 6:15 p.m. and the theater holds up to 220 viewers.  For more information about Big Brothers Big Sisters, contact Sharleen Moulton at (315) 738-0794.
