Early Intervention

Upstate Cerebral Palsy offers dynamic Early Intervention services for infants and young children who have exhibited a delay in one or more areas of development. The New York State certified program may begin serving children immediately after birth to assist with their developmental needs.

Our professional team, including service coordinators, special education teachers, physical and occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and pertinent medical personnel, work with parents in developing a unique program to meet each child’s specific needs. This team conducts comprehensive developmental evaluations and provides ongoing Early Intervention service coordination and treatment. Both home-based and center-based services are available to families.

More than 100 children receive Early Intervention services at Upstate Cerebral Palsy which operates under the Oneida County Early Intervention Program. This program, administered by the New York State Department of Health, looks to intercede if a child is experiencing development issues in the following areas: physical, cognitive, communication, social-emotional, and/or adaptive. Meanwhile, parent support groups are also available and are designed to offer services and training to parents to aid them in promoting the growth and development of their child.

Upstate Cerebral Palsy services are provided in the best interest of each child. Services are offered, through the County, at no out-of-pocket expense to the families. However, families may have daycare or other fees charged by agencies outside of Upstate Cerebral Palsy.

This program is a statewide program administered through Oneida County. Contact the county Department of Health Office for any concerns about your child’s development. If your child is found to be eligible for services after an evaluation performed by a licensed practitioner, you will work with a representative from the county and other team members to generate a plan to help your child and your family.
